At the end of August, the Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) was with members in Canberra talking to MPs and Senators about the urgent workforce crisis in the disability services sector.
The members spoke about the effects low pay, chronic understaffing, burnout and the declining quality of care and support is having in SIL services.
They also spoke about how Victoria has long been recognised as delivering the Gold Standard of disability support – with the best wages, staffing models, supervision and training in the country.
Without urgent funding reform this standard will be lost, risking a mass exodus of skilled and experienced disability support workers and leaving NDIS participants worse off.
